A sparkling retreat which offers something for everyone: within the grounds of Pech Marty you will find the ruins of a former 17th Century priest's house, a small lake, a coppice of trees and plants and, of course, a private swimming pool with views over the fields towards the perfect bastide of Monflanquin.

Pech Marty has been recently renovated and extended and now offers that attractive combination of contemporary living within a traditional milieu. Inside, antique and modern furniture combines well in a spacious and airy environment. But it is surely outside that you will wish to be, sunbathing by the pool or exploring the verdant grounds under the shade of willow, ash and poplar trees, eating al fresco on the terrace or simply relaxing amongst the grounds with your latest must read book in hand.

Monflanquin (7km) offers all amenities from bakeries and supermarkets to a range of restaurants and bars. Standing like a beacon on a hilltop, it is well worth a visit as it is accepted as being one of the best examples of 'bastide' town layout, conforming as it does to the plan of a main square from which streets run at right angles. The other prerequisite of a 'bastide' is that a market takes place, and this still does, on a Thursday, in the Place des Arcades. Head up the square beyond the church and you will be rewarded with magnificent views to the north over crops of immaculately ordered vines, cereals and, in season, a dazzling yellow uproar of sunflower fields.
