This breathtaking Chateau is the ultimate in French chateau living. It has been beautifully renovated maintaining its “turrets and towers” and history yet with all the modern facilities you could wish for on holiday. Set higher than the surrounding countryside, this chateau offers 360 degree views over the vines, woodland, fields and meadows, with the most dramatic view from the terrace over towards the Pyrenees.
There are 6 large bedrooms within the Chateau itself, four of which have en-suites and three more modest bedrooms in the Guest Cottage. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a large Drawing Room and Dining Room. In addition there is a Tavern/bar opening up onto the 250m2 of Upper Terrace as well as a Games Room with a full size snooker table. The Tavern and Games room are both air-conditioned.
The saltwater heated pool is 10mx5m with Grecian steps. There is an automated security cover for safety as well as a laser alarm. Set in its own grounds of 14 hectares, the chateau is surrounded by mature trees, vines, woodland and well kept gardens. The property is completely private and the caretakers are extremely discreet about guests. The Dining Terrace is out of this world with views over towards the Pyrenees.
Interior and grounds
The estate comprises of 10 bedrooms to sleep up to 20 (14 in the main chateau and 6 in the neighbouring cottage).
The Chateau reception rooms are out of this world. The kitchen is extremely modern and very well equipped with a “La Cornue” range, dishwasher, microwave, 2 small fridges, coffee machine etc. There is a small table with seating for approximately 6. The Utility room is situated next to the Kitchen and has 2 washing machines, 2 tumble dryers and Ironing facilities. There is also a drinks pantry off the kitchen leading out towards the dining terrace as well as a downstairs WC.
The Dining Room is close to the Kitchen and is a fantastic place for that formal meal. It seat 10-12 but can be enlarged for bigger groups. The Living room is divided into two areas. The more informal area in front of the open stone fireplace has comfy seating with a large 4 seater sofa and 2 armchairs. Here there is satellite television and a relaxed coffee table with magazines. The second area is more formal and has a Drawing room feel with traditional French seating for 8. There is also a BOSE music system.
The Games Room has a full size snooker table and large open fireplace. It is fully air conditioned and leads into the Tavern/Bar. This room again is air conditioned and has a bar area, sink and small fridge. There is a relaxing sofa and then steps up onto the Dining Terrace. An ideal place to escape the heat of the midday sun! The Chateau also has a Cave under the Games Room for storage of your wine and this can be stocked for you in advance by the Chateau Manager.
6 of the bedrooms are connected by the original stone spiral staircase with Bedrooms 3 and 4 on the first floor, the Master suite comprising Bedroom 1, Study/Bedroom 2 and the large ensuite on the second floor and then Bedroom 6 and 7 on the third floor. Bedroom 5 is set over the Games Room and is air-conditioned. Bedrooms 8, 9 and 10 are more simple in style but still extremely elegant and well equipped. There is a separate kitchen and living room. Ideal for those looking for more privacy.
For the summer months, the chateau is geared towards outside living. For the winter months, there are roaring open log fires in majestic stone fireplaces and central heating.
The west facing Dining Terrace is 250m2and has a long wooden dining table, wooden recliners and a coffee area with relaxed seating. Just around the corner, from the main terrace and with views over woodland, there is a built in BBQ area and small herb garden. There is also a gas BBQ if you would prefer and an additional dining table. For large groups, both tables are used together.
The heated saltwater pool is 10x5m with Grecian steps. There are 8 wooden recliners and parasols for shade. The pool has an automated shutter as well as a laser alarm for safety. The pool is extremely private!
There are over 14 hectares of land with plenty of variety for everyone - large terraces to enjoy the sunsets on, open lawned areas for ball games and woodland walks for the more energetic, if they can tear themselves away from the pool area. The chateau has its own vines and makes its own wine. A tasting can be arranged by the chateau staff.
Location and local information
The Chateau is set in complete privacy and tranquillity, yet only 5 minutes drive from the local village where you will find shops, bars, restaurants and the all important French morning market. Throughout the summer, there are banquets, festivals and events taking place throughout the season. There are activities to suit all ages and interests, foodies will enjoy the great local restaurants at the heart of France's centre of gastronomic excellence, as well as the local wine.
The Chateau is 45 minutes drive (40km) from the International Airport at Pau and is just under 2hrs from the vibrant city of Bordeaux (190km), with another large International Airport servicing even more UK and Worldwide destinations.
• Many local towns with morning markets to visit such as Lembaye, Aire sur L’Adour and Maubourguet.
• Gardens and parks: Jardins du château de Viven (19km), Jardin du château de Momas (25km), Palmeraie du Sarthou (28km), Jardin Massey (34km).
• City of Pau – 40 km away including Chateaux, shops, gardens, tours etc.
• Tarbes (lots to do there) is 34km away.
• Caliceo Spa (close to Pau) – 40km away.
• Pilgrimmage town of Lourdes – 1 hour drive away.
• Grottes de Betheram – 1hr drive (63km).
• Pyrennees resorts approx 1hr30 to 1hr45.
• For one evening the famous jazz festival at Marciac will be on (29th July to 15th August 2011) - 40 minutes drive away.
• There are also children’s and sports activities like bowling, karting, horseriding etc.
Catering and services
There is a chateau manager who is on hand to assist you with extra services and can book restaurants, tennis courts or other trips out for you. That said, she will give you complete privacy of the chateau and should you need her, you will find her in the mornings in her office on site which is completely separate to the chateau close to the front entrance. The grounds, pool and gardens will also need to be maintained but again this will be done with as much discretion as is possible.
Additional services can be arranged by the chateau staff and can include occasional catering, a completely catered service as well as daily maid service, airport pick-ups etc. This can be arranged at the time of booking or after.
