This substantial property is approached via a long drive through private wooded land, part of the 60 hectare Casal do Bispo Estate. There are one or two other properties dotted around the estate but the house is set in 2000 square meters of private, landscaped, totally secluded gardens often home to badgers, rabbits and the foxes. The pool is surrounded by a lawn and there is a decked sun terrace opening off the main living room.
The villa has a fantastic contemporary interior with top quality furnishings and fittings and neutral colour schemes throughout designed to enhance the beauty of the surrounding woodland. The living/dining room/kitchen is L-shaped and open-plan, with lots of comfortable seating arranged around two coffee tables, there is also an effective wood burning stove and a very attractive wooden dining suite. The kitchen is fantastic, it has a breakfast bar, granite work surfaces, a full range of top quality appliances and a concealed utility room housing the washing machine and tumble dryer.
The first floor is approached by a wooden staircase, which is open on one side so care must be taken with young children. Many natural materials have been used, the floors are a combination of wood and stone wooden floors and the bathrooms and shower rooms are ultra modern with attractive slate tiles and large butler sinks. Please note there is a disused windmill at the back of the house and this may be a hazard for curious small children!
The villa is located in the Serra da Arrabida National Park, 5kms from beautiful beaches and close to Vila Nogueira de Azeitao - a small historic town surrounded by the national park and well known for its vineyards and wine cellars. Arrabida beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, and has a natural bay with calm waters, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The region of Azeitão is famed for its gastronomy, and even the local supermarket, Intermarché, has a mix of gourmet and standard products. There is an annual gastronomic festival June to September, whilst inexpensive fresh grilled fish can be easily found all year round and the local cheese said to be one of the best in the country. The popular Torta de Azeitao, a delicious local pastry and the Moscatel wine, a sweet wine served as an aperitif. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the ‘Rota de Vinhos’ association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature. The villa is ideally situated to take best advantage of these delights of the area - this is if you manage to leave it!
As well as Lisbon, which is only 30km away, Azeitão, Setubal, Palmela and Sesimbra are easily reached, making this self-catering villa an ideal base for unforgettable daily excursions.
