Originally the home of a wealthy Marrakech merchant, this beautifully restored traditional riad has retained many of its original features; colourful zelliges (mosaics), carved cedar wood ceilings, intricate stucco plasterwork and polished tadelakt walls, all reflect its fascinating past. Close by is the entrance to the ancient souks, where craftsmen are still working in their fondouks, plying their ancient trades in the same way that they have done for centuries and from here a fascinating walk will lead you to the Jemma el Fna Square.
At its heart is a peaceful flower-filled courtyard complete with tumbling multi-coloured bougainvillea, chirping birds and a pretty zelliges water fountain. A spacious lounge full of interesting Moroccan artefacts and the owner’s collection of books, plus a cosy dining room with open fire and comfy poufs, all combine to make you feel very much at home. The three charming bedrooms on the first floor overlook the courtyard and offer all comforts, as well as attractive en suite bath and shower rooms, all decorated with colourful polished tadelakt walls and mosaics.
