From Vathy a road winds its way south through a beautiful, natural, undulating landscape with only a very few houses and dramatic views to sea. This peaceful, southern part of Ithaca produces most of the island’s wine. Surrounding hillsides and valleys contain an attractive patchwork display of vineyards, olive groves and pine forest.
2.5 kilometres from Vathy, just off this road, lies this Villa (named after the island’s wild pear tree).
A large side terrace incorporates a barbecue and dining area. The front terrace leads to the large pool terrace, decorated on one side of the house by cascades of white and crimson bougainvillaea. A mulberry tree provides natural shade. Views out to sea, along the coastline of olive groves and vineyards, to the Greek mainland, are spectacular.
Bordered by succulents, herbs, lavender bushes and flowering shrubs and surrounded by olive trees, this is a comfortable and totally private retreat.
