Dating back to the 17th Century, this charming stone-built property is situated in the heart of the historic old town of Vaison La Romaine. The ancient medieval citadel is a labyrinth of narrow passages, cobbled streets and archways which open out into spellbinding squares adorned with fountains and plane trees. The modern town of Vaison sits on the valley floor and boasts some of the most significant Roman ruins to be found in France.
The rambling interior of Le Mas Ventoux has been restored with care; from the high quality local stone flooring to the exposed ceiling beams and bare stone walls. A feature of note is the original stone spiral staircase on one side of the building which leads to an independent bedroom. Also of note is the spacious double bedroom with a terrace offering the most gratifying views over Vaison, beyond the ornate stone bell tower and over the rooftops towards the Baronnies mountain range.
The terraced gardens, dotted with mature trees and shrubs, provide essential off-road parking space and lead down to a generous veranda overlooking the pool and the town beyond.
A variety of bars and restaurants are all within walking distance of the house and the main town of Vaison has a bustling market on Tuesday mornings. Further afield, a tour of the renowned vineyards of the southern Côtes du Rhône or the Côtes du Ventoux will delight the wine lover, whilst the historic towns of Orange (30km) and Avignon (50km) should not be missed for a true flavour of Provence.
