There are few properties in Pollença that can compare with the privileged position and excellent facilities of La Coma. Tucked away, private and secluded along a country lane yet within walking distance of the atmospheric central square, varied shops and many celebrated restaurants of the famous Roman town itself, the location of this traditional Mallorcan farmhouse undoubtedly ranks amongst our best.
Backed by the striking slopes of the Tramuntana foothills, La Coma nestles in a natural hollow of the Colonya Valley surrounded by a wealth of indigenous Mediterranean vegetation that includes prickly pears, citrus trees, vines and date palms as well as woods of holm oak, carob and olive trees.
Bird lovers will marvel at the wealth of species that can be seen flitting and soaring around the jagged, rocky outcrops where hawks, kestrels, kites and even a red eagle are all regular visitors. To the opposite side of the property, the equally attractive vista that spreads out over the countryside encompasses the iconic, chapel-topped Puig de Maria, and the hills of Sant Marti at Old Alcúdia with the Farrutx peninsula near Artá shimmering in the distance.
In restoring La Coma the local owners have taken care to retain many traditional features from those bygone days when the property was a full-time working farmhouse. The original, open corner hearth and huge wall-mounted laundry bowl are still part of a kitchen that has been completely refurbished for modern day living, while exposed stone walls, wooden beams, parquet flooring, antique pieces of furniture and assorted rural memorabilia all add further character. Each of the four bedrooms is a good size, individually air conditioned and enjoys its own en suite bath or shower room.
Externally, the excellent private swimming pool with Roman steps boasts ample sunbathing space and an adjacent covered seating area that is a lovely spot in which to relax, enjoy the tranquil rural ambience and absorb those splendid views. Alongside the shaded dining terrace, the original Mallorcan oven is further testament to the property's rustic origins and facilities are perfectly complemented by a private, all-weather tennis court just a few steps away across the grounds.
It is exactly 1km to Pollença, a classic Roman town that needs little introduction. Focal point of the north and one of the most attractive places on the island, all amenities and an utterly unique atmosphere are found here. Sandy beaches are easily reached at Cala Sant Vicenç (7.8kms) and Port de Pollença (8.3kms) with the golf course even nearer to hand at 4km.
Please note: Families with younger children will be interested to know that a gate to one side of the pool terrace can be closed preventing direct access to the pool area. When this gate is closed the only way to access the pool area is by walking all the way around the house to the opposite side of the pool terrace.
