The intact provençal flavour of the building and gardens combines tastefully with a distinctly modern and cool interior in this impeccably restored 'mas'. The untouristy area is beautiful and well worth discovering.
This stunning provençal stone 'mas' is located in the Drôme Provençale just north of Provence, 35km from the motorway exit at Montélimar-Sud. There is a bakery at La Baume-de-Transit (2.5km), a charming village which boasts a 12th century castle and a lovely Romanesque church. All shops and services can be found in the lively and attractive small towns of St-Paul-Trois-Châteaux (11km), market on Tuesdays and Bollène (13km). There is a good market at Pierrelatte (19km) on Fridays.
There are many beautiful villages nearby which are well worth exploring: Grignan (15km) with its impressive château once home to the Comtesse de Sévigné, and host to many plays and concerts during the summer; the small historic town of Valréas (15km) with beautiful architecture; Suze-la-Rousse dominated by a magnificent medieval fortress and château (5km); the charming village of Richerenches (8km) which shelters one of the oldest and most important garrisons of the Templiers de Provence (12th century).
There are tennis courts at St-Paul-Trois-Châteaux, horse riding at Grignan, bike hire at Vaison-la-Romaine (23km), a 9 hole golf course at Clansayes (11km) and an 18 hole course at Montboucher-sur-Jabron (35km), and a leisure lake with pedaloes, swimming, and fishing at Bollène (13km).
