Located in a delightful rural setting just below the foothills of the Pyrenees on a lap of land surrounded by ten thousand square metres of its own forests and meadows, This Villa has been lovingly and sensitively restored over the years with exquisite taste. The original stone well that lies adjacent to the main entrance undoubtedly sets the tone for such a warm and welcoming property.
Great care has been taken to retain the 16th Century ambiance of this beautiful abode. Vaulted ceilings on the lower floor and traditional battened clay tiled ceilings on the upper levels supported by the solid timber beams that form the eaves of the house are but a few of the distinctive features that give this fairytale 16th Century stone farmhouse its delightful, cosy and inviting interior.
Two comfortable sitting areas and a well-equipped traditional Catalan kitchen/dining area adorned with framed 17th Century hand painted tiles, exposed stone walls and fine antiques all add to the ambiance of refined rustic living. Light floods into both the ground and second floor sitting areas, both of which open out to the enchanting grounds that encompass The Villa.
Vine and wisteria clad terraces offer wonderful outdoor dining areas whilst a small brook glides alongside the private leafy lane that leads to this magnificent ancient farmhouse, forming a natural pond shaded by a grove of tall oak trees where water lilies float gently and birds of prey soar high above. It is a perfect place to relax with a good book as the children play in the nearby private swimming pool, shielded, as it is, by towering spears of cypress trees.
Tempting as it is not to stray from the wonderful tranquillity that the Villa offers or simply spend time wandering across the meadows and woodland enjoying the diverse birdlife and visiting the many villages dotted around the surrounding countryside, a mere 25 minute drive will take you to the delightful unspoilt beach of Sant Martí d'Empúries with its unique backdrop of Greco-Roman remains. To swim here is to join a tradition that dates back to 575 BC.
Lovers of antiquity may wish to visit the ancient town of Besalú, just a 15km drive away, and walk across its stunning fortified medieval bridge and under the famous portcullis. Closer to hand, the renowned 18-hole Torremirona golf course and Spa is only 3km from the house, whilst a 10 minute drive will take you to Navata where there is a small supermarket and pharmacy. Alternatively, the village of Lladó boasts two fine restaurants and is just 1.5km away.
