Tamariu itself dates back to before the 12th century and has always been associated with fishing. Most of its restaurants were originally boathouses, which later became fishermens’ taverns and are today renowned for their local seafood dishes. In the evening small stalls selling locally made trinkets are set up along the promenade and the occasional impromptu busker provides free entertainment. Two small grocery stores and a newspaper shop provide most basic provisions, whilst just 5km away the bustling town of Palafrugell with its colourful market has all amenities.
