A contemporary interior in perfect harmony with its well-preserved exterior set in a beautifully gentle and untouched part of France.
This unique and design-led renovation of a traditional 19th century farmhouse is set in the heart of Gascony within gently undulating countryside close to many lovely market towns. The villages of Nogaro and Riscle (both 7km) have shops and basic services. Nogaro is home to the motor racing circuit Paul Armagnac and is known for its bullring with Courses Landaises taking place during the summer months. Nogaro has Wednesday and Saturday markets, professional clay tennis courts, bike hire and a gliding and flying school. Riscle is located on the banks of the Adour River (fishing and canoeing) and has a Friday market and a restaurant.
Aire-sur-l'Adour (21km) is a bustling little town with a market on Tuesday and Saturday and an exceptional church (Sainte Quitterie). The biggest market town of the Gers, Eauze (26km), the Capital of Armagnac, is well worth exploring with its beautiful winding medieval streets, half timber houses and arcaded squares. It offers many cafés, restaurants and a Thursday market. Vic-Fézensac (40km) is famous for its annual Latin American music festival in July (www.tempo-latino.com) and bullring, and has a good selection of shops, a Friday market as well as a twice-monthly night market in the summer. The famous Marciac jazz festival (33km) takes place during the first half of August (www.jazzinmarciac.com).
This is a perfect base to discover d'Artagnan's Gascony, known for its gastronomic specialities including foie gras, confits and Armagnac, and there are many vineyards nearby, including the now reknown Château Montus and Château Bouscassé at Maumusson-Laguian (15km); Madiran (25km) and St-Mont (13km) also produce good wines. Michel Guérard's famous gastronomic restaurant (3 Michelin stars) "Les Prés d'Eugénie" (at Eugénie-les-Bains, 33km) offers fine dining for a truly special occasion, as well as a sumptious spa "La Ferme Thermale".
Waterskiing is possible on the lake at Cahuzac-sur-Adour (13km) and swimming in the lake at Aignan (16km). There is horse riding at Cravencères (12km) and an 18 hole golf course at Eauze.
