Gionis is the Greek name for the Scops Owl, whose night call can occasionally be heard in the tall old oak tree beside the villa.
This villa is in the same little hamlet of Haliotata as Villa Olivia, set on a hillside four kilometres away from the port of Sami, half way up Cephalonia’s east coast.
This villa has total privacy and magnificent views down the valley of olive groves and pine trees to the houses of Sami and across the sea to the island of Ithaca.
Built of local stone, the spacious villa opens out on to a large pool terrace facing the sea with a dining and barbecue area. Villa Gionis has the feel of a traditional hamlet home but with modern facilities and very comfortable furnishings in a private and undisturbed setting.
Just south of Sami is the beautiful Antisamos beach, used as a setting in the film “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. The Drogerati Caves are just two kilometres away and the submerged lake of Melissani at Karovomilos village is a further five minutes drive. Regular ferries from Sami to Ithaca allow for convenient day trips – but without the car so Ithaca taxis would have to be used.
