Description:

Alsace is one of the 26 regions of France, located on the France’s eastern border, the Rhine, it is the river which separate Alsace from Germany and Switzerland. Its capital is Strasbourg. Alsace history’s takes place in the Holy Roman Empire, it changed hands between France and Germany several times between the 17th and 20th century.

Throughout the 17th century, the whole Alsace was progressively annexed in the reign of kings Louis XIII and Louis XIV of France. Alsace is commonly (although now informally) mentioned without distinction with Lorraine, it was often contested in the 19th and 20th century because many countries wanted to take over these two regions, as Alsace-Lorraine, these arguments go back to a division among the successors of Charlemagne in the 9th century.

Moreover it was a German dialect-speaking region for several periods in its history, nowadays all Alsatians speak French. About 25% of the local population is fluent in the Alsatian language (as a mother tongue) or German (as a second language).
