St Lucia. Where time slips away under the palm trees. Days melt into evening. Relax, or visit your favourite restaurants.
The sun warms the land and the sea glints with silvery shards. The long, white beaches of the north-west are relatively deserted; the rocky northern tip around Cap Estate is blessed with small sandy coves providing complete privacy for those 'Robinson Crusoe' days. Palm trees punctuate this tropical paradise. Inland, the island is covered with lush, green vegetation, and the horizon is spiked with twin volcanic peaks, the Pitons, and the drive-in volcano, Soufriere.
Days pass languidly. In the relative cool of morning, shop for crafts at the colourful bustling market in Castries. Meander through the stalls and admire the amazing variety of vegetables and fruit, like pumpkins, juicy pineapples and mangos bursting with flavour. Or look around the shops in Rodney Bay, stop for a drink and watch the world pass by.
As the heat increases, slow the pace further; relax in the shade, or cool down by snorkelling, swimming, scuba-diving, sailing or fishing. Spend evenings horseriding or playing golf, or revel in the restaurants and cafés of Rodney Bay. Meals are based on rice and fresh produce and are wholesome and delicious, and can be supplemented with the delicious yet heady rum punch. Luxuriate in the slightly cooler temperatures, and reflect on the pleasures of another busy day in paradise.
